London: Grolier Society, 1900. Book. Fine. Three-Quarter Leather. Limited Edition. Royal 8vo (23 x 15.5 cm). Complete 15 volume set; Edition De Luxe, this set numbered 990 of 1,000 copies. Collection of ten literary biographies [see below], beautifully bound in an elegant and refined "arts and crafts" style; contemporary three-quarter green morocco, gilt-decorated spines including floral motifs highlighted in red. Top edges gilt, other edges uncut; green and gold marbled end papers. Richly illustrated with hand-coloured frontispiece plates in each volume and, throughout the set, a further 75 b/w plates with captioned tissue-guards. In fine condition with minimal rubbing to extremities. Contents clean and tight, unmarked, no inscriptions. Following the Grolier Society's successful Beaux & Belles of England, this collection of entertaining biographies was published including: Lawrence Sterne, Horace Wallpole, Beau Nash, Fanny Burney, Lady Montagu, Peg Woffington, Mrs Jordan, Colley Ciber and Captain Gronow.
