Handwritten labels on the spines. The back of the fronispiece in vol. 1 is inscribed: "Philip Kassel. Zum Andenken erhalten von Herrn Koch Subrector Frankenthal." The front pastdowns and title pages of various volumes bear the names variously of Ervin Koch, Ph. Kassel, and ? Meyer. The title page of vol. 1 also bears the remains of a small handwritten label. It is extremely rare to find a complete set such as this still in its original wrappers, which would normally either have been replaced by a permanent binding by the first owner or have deteriorated after nearly 175 years. Original brown paper spine and grey paper over boards. Wood-engraved head pieces and tail pieces. First edition. The author, Richard Llwyd (1752-1835), was a Welsh poet known as the "Bard of Snowdon." In Fair+ Condition: paper over spine is lacking; covers are soiled and faintly dampstained; tail of spine and lower corners of boards and pages have rodent damage, without affecting text; pages are clean and bright. An extremely scarce work.

Paris: Didot l'Ainé, 1792. Hardcover. Good +. 2 volumes of 3: vol. 1: xvi, 236 p.; vol. 3: 240 p.; 13 cm. Half polished black calf with marbled paper over boards. Red leather gilt-tooled spine labels; gilt-tooled spine ornamentation. All page edges speckled red. Terra cotta endpapers. Front fixed endpapers bear engraved armorial book plate of George Paget with the Paget family motto "Per il suo Contrario." This was presumably Lord George Augustus Frederick Paget (1818-1880), who served in the Crimean War as a senior officer of the Light Cavalry brigade under Lord Cardigan and was present at the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade; he was later made Inspector General of Cavalry. Some unopened leaves. Very scarce in original illustrated wrappers. Title page is preceded by two pages: another title page repeating the eagle emblem without the wreath and adding "privately printed"; and a page of limitation stating that the edition was limited to 500 copies, but without a copy number or signature. This is the third of the pirate editions described by Lawrence in "My Skirmish with Jolly Roger." In Very Good- Condition: joints, center of spine, and corners rubbed; head of spine frayed; a few pages opened carelessly (resulting in chip out of upper edge of title page); slightly soiling along a few margins; back endpapers stained; slightly cocked but solid.
