About This Item
Notre Dame, IN: The University of Notre Dame Press, 1950. Hardcover. Small 4to. Black buckram with yellow spine lettering. 368pp. Map. Very good. Faintest of binding edgewear; faint floral mustiness. A tight and nice second edition of the well-known opus of this British-born botanist (1903-70) who spent much of his notable career at the University of Illinois (1939-70). He signs the top of the title page large and bold using the form of his name he liked: "G. Neville Jones." This copy belonged to his noted colleague and contemporary Lyle E. Bamber (1903-80), who began at U. of I. the same year and was their first biology librarian (1939-71); his miniscule inkstamped name appears on rear pastedown and front flyleaf (above which he pens "Personal Copy of"). Most unusual to find signed by Jones.
