1940 hardcover as pictured. An interesting history of the origins and early development of football in America by the man who initiated the award that later became the Heisman Trophy. Worn but still very readable and signed by author. Includes vignettes of many early college teams and classic games with many b&w photographs and an number of full page pen and ink illustrations. Binding is intact. Green cloth boards are soiled and worn with some fraying at edges and hinges. Patterned endpapers are tanned with bookworm damage at edges. Inscribed and signed by Dean Hill on FFEP. A few pages have notations. Several have small chips that do not intrude into the text, and light water staining at lower edge. No dust jacket.
