About This Item
NY: The Macmillan Company, 1918. First Edition. Signed presentation from White on the half-title page: "To Ed and Effie from Will. With affectionate greetings. Emporia, November 1918." Edward Curtis Franklin [1862-1927] taught chemistry at Stanford University and was president of the American Chemical Society in 1923, the first from Stanford. He grew up in Kansas and got his degrees in chemistry at Kansas University, where he met his wife, Effie Scott. Both were good friends of William Allen White, a famous Kansan. Basis for the 1920 silent film of the same name, directed by Allan Dwan. 12mo., green cloth, stamped in gilt; 615 pages, plus ads. Very Good (spine bit dull; contents clean & tight with little browning endpapers & few pages formerly dog-eared).
