Boston: George C Rand & Avery, for the Author. Very Good. 1860. early printing. Hardcover. Map & Woodcuts; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 224 pages; 1860 George C Rand & Avery, for the Author. HC early printing after the 1853 original edition. Snugly bound and clean in original ribbed brown cloth with decorative borders in blind and decorative title design in gilt to spine. Mild shelf bumping to boards at corner tips and corners with light shelf rubbing at spine ends. Illustrated with a map frontis and about 33 woodcut pictorial figures. Prior ownership, pictorial bookplate of C C Sampson to front endpage, with designer initials appearing to be C V K. Facing the Sampson bookplate Is an earlier bookplate donating the title to the "Amarinthine Literary Society" of the Pennsylvania Female College - presumably the institution founded in 1851 in Montgomery County, PA as Montgomery Female Seminary. A solid clean copy and uncommon thus. VG .
