[40] printed in red, illustrated in colour throughout; wide demy 4to; red papered boards, ruled in silver, spine lettered in gilt, the boards a trifle sprung, tiny snag to upper joint; price-clipped dust wrapper, lightly foxed, edges rubbed and split, with a couple of small chips, thin triangular piece torn from top edge of back panel reattached with archival tape on reverse; a little pale foxing; Collins, London, 1969. First U.K. edition. *The artist Beni Montresor (1926-2001) was also an opera and film director, and a set designer, whose productions were seen at La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He won the Caldecott Medal for the best picture book of the year in 1965, May I Bring a Friend? For his contribution to the arts, he was knighted by the Italian Government in 1966.
