[7], 8-78; [3], 478pp. Contemporary full speckled calf, spine with five raised bands and compartments decorated with floral motifs, marbled endpapers. Amoenitates academicae was printed in 1752 in Amsterdam by J. Wetstenium and includes four engraved foldout plates and one in-text illustration. With the bookplate of noted malacologist Paul Maurice Pallary on the front pastedown endpaper. Later bookplate on the front free endpaper. Front joint partially split, wear to extremities, previous owners' names on title, light scattered foxing, small loss to spine ends. A good+ copy. Bradley I, p. 254. Pritzel 5405. ; Octavo.

11 volumes in the set : the 12th is a matching mock-up with a hidey-hole. The image shows vols 9 and 11. All books have original leather spines with 5 raised bands and new gilt titles on red skivers; the volume numbers have been re-worked. Thomas Littleton was a 15th-century English jurist known for his treatises on tenures. This book has long been considered the first text on English property law and ownership rights. 'The Tenures', as it is more commonly known, was an important catalyst in the changes made to the feudal system in England and was made the subject of numerous commentaries a rebuttal into the 17th-century. Interestingly, portions of this work are still sited as authoritative in English and American real estate law.
This particular 1671 edition was published in London and features both England and French texts in parallel.
