About This Item
Faber and Faber. First UK edition and first print publisher by Faber and Faber in 1939. This is a scarce near fine copy. The dust wrapper has no fading to the spine and is in a very complete condition with no loss, chips or tears. It is also not price clipped. It retains the illusive promotional wraparound band in powder blue and red lettering. The book has some rubbing and wear to the bottom edge of the boards otherwise is also in nice condition. With no previous owner's marks and no foxing or browning marks. Tucked into the front is the publishers review slip. Overall a near fine copy and scarce with these attributes. Journey to a War is a travel book in prose and verse. The book is in three parts: a series of poems by Auden describing his and Isherwood's journey to China in 1938 ; a "Travel-Diary" by Isherwood (including material first drafted by Auden) about their travels in China itself, and their observations of the Sino-Japanese War; and "In Time of War: A Sonnet Sequence with a Verse Commentary" by Auden, with reflections on the contemporary world and their experiences in China. The book also contains a selection of photographs by Auden. . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1939.
