Very good condition throughout with some very minor rubbing and toning to the edges but still all clean and sound. The set has been very well looked after. Started by Vale with $100 from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the same amount from Allen Ginsberg, Search & Destroy was a hugely influential recorder of the early Punk scene in America, while also reporting on and interviewing the bands making a name for themselves on the British scene, including Iggy Pop, Blondie, Dead Kennedys, X, Devo, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Sham 69, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks and an article on Vivienne Westwood. Complete sets of the original publications are uncommon.

Original light purple/pink cloth binding with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine and designs by Charles Shannon in gilt to both boards. Spine cloth is just a little darkened but the gilt dulled. Both boards with a few marks but the gilt decorations brighter. One small tear, without loss, to the top 1.5 inches of the dedication leaf, where the gathering has been carelessly opened. All edges uncut. A couiple of gatherings in the publisher adverts still unopened. Overall a very good.
One of just 500 copies, published on November 9th, 1893. --- Mason 357.

The pages are heavily toned, per the norm for the paper stock, but clean otherwise. The binding is tight. A few uncut leaves in the advertisement section. FEP with small ornamental bookplate pastedown of "Carroll Atwood Wilson", who was a well-known book collector of his day as well as a lawyer and chief legal counsel to the Guggenheims. The publisher's peach-colored cloth has some blistering on the boards. Along the edges there are long narrow spots in which the color is washed out. v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
