Elkin Mathews and John Lane at the sign of the Bodley Head. London. 1893. FIRST EDITION. Small 4to.(8.5 X 6.3 inches). xvi, 132pp. 16pp publishers catalogue at the rear of the book, dated September 1893.


Original light purple/pink cloth binding with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine and designs by Charles Shannon in gilt to both boards. Spine cloth is just a little darkened but the gilt dulled. Both boards with a few marks but the gilt decorations brighter. One small tear, without loss, to the top 1.5 inches of the dedication leaf, where the gathering has been carelessly opened. All edges uncut. A couiple of gatherings in the publisher adverts still unopened. Overall a very good.


One of just 500 copies, published on November 9th, 1893. --- Mason 357.
