Textured, steel-grey wraps with color image; white lettering on spine; French flaps. 297 pp. with bw illus. throughout. Text in Italian. Catalogue from the exhibition of April - July 1990, titled Divisionismo italiano, at the Museo d'Arte Moderna e Contempranea, Trento Italy. Divided into 4 main sections, with introductory essays by both main authors (the curators) and additional essays by 14 contributing authors. "Italian Divisionists - named after the painting technique they used, namely the division of colour through individualized brushstrokes - were active in Italian avant-garde art during the 1890s and early 1900s, roughly 1891-1907. Divisionist painting technique was marked by the juxtaposition of strokes of colour pigment to create the optical effect of intense single colours. Its scientific basis stemmed from the optical and chromatic colour theory developed in such books as Modern Chromatics (1879) by the American scientist Ogden Rood and Law of Simultaneous Colour Contrast (1839) by French chemist Michel-Eugene Chevreul.
