Bruxelles: Johannis Mommartius, 1656 A good copy of the second edition of this extremely rare work. First printed in Venice in 1652. Baldassare Bonifacio was a professor among many other talents and this work is a cabinet of curiosities - gathering a wide range of stories and recollections - including tales from classical antiquity of women who had serpent lovers. In full leather binding with raised bands and gilt decoration to the spine and tooling to the boards. It has had an old leather repair relaying the tooled front board onto plain leather. It is clean, showing wear to top and bottom of spine and edges and with a broken front hinge and weak rear hinge, although the board is still attached. The contents are in superb condition given the age of the book. There is a biographical note written in ink in english on a preliminary and 2-3 signs of previous ownershiip. Some of the ink has run a little. With black and white illustrated title page; page of names - D Carolo Hovyne, Equiti Aurato;…

1873 1ed Undeveloped West Beadle Navajo INDIANS Mormons California GOLD TexasJohn H Beadle was a member of the Mormon expedition across the United States to the American West. He made notes and reports on the excursion and ultimately published a fascinating work on every aspect of the trip. Beadle wrote 'The Undeveloped West' which turned out to be an autobiography of sorts, describing Beadle's time in Utah and his voyage westward. It includes accounts of time in Texas, Yosemite and California, and Nevada.
Beadle also includes numerous descriptions of Native American Indian tribes such as the Navajo and Mexicans, Aztec descendants, gold and silver mining, railroad construction, and the rise of Mormons in Utah.

American antiquities, and discoveries in the West: being an exhibition of the evidence that an ancient population of partially civilized nations, differing entirely from those of the present Indians, peopled America, many centuries before its discovery by Columbus. And inquiries into their origin, with a copious description of many of their stupendous works, now in ruins. With conjectures concerning what may have become of them

Description:
1835 American Antiquities Priest MAP Trail of Tears Indians Mormons Cannibals A polemic text on the origin of civilization in the Americas. Priest argued that America was the land where Noah's Ark came to rest and suggested that at least some of the mounds had been built before the Deluge. Surveying the various themes of mound builder origins, he could not decide whether the mounds were the work of Polynesians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Israelites, Scandinavians, Welsh, Scots, or Chinese, although he felt certain the Indians had not built them.
"As the frontier receded and Americans found their lives becoming more regulated and urbanized, they were willing to seek escape in Priest's world. Ultimately, it is not surprising he attempted to write an epic of prehistoric America. His effort is so ambitious, so ludicrous in the face of archaeological evidence, such a collection of bizarre conjecture, such a failed synthesis of so much diverse information, and so ultimately fascinating, that it stands as… Read More

1662 A Tything Table Church of England LAW Finances Tithes Anglican EconomicsWilliam Crashaw was a late 16th-century English cleric who published numerous Protestant sermons and theological treatises. One of his lesser-known works was 'A Tything Table' – a book on the financial expectations of the Church of England according to the biblical and ecclesiastical laws. Crashaw includes lists of terms associated with tithes and ecclesiastical finances, both in their English and Latin equivalencies, and also addresses questions regarding tithing goods, rather than just money.
