Los Angeles: Times-Mirror Printing and Binding House. Fair with no dust jacket. 1914. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Three-quarter leather and cloth on boards - spine missing, with covers kept in place by heavy woven mesh beneath paste downs. Cover is decorative despite wear, with intricate tooling in gilt, silver, black and red. Pages of heavy paper show minor foxing, otherwise clean. Illustrations by W. A. Sharp. Of historical value this story follows 18 men from a New York YMCA to the interior of Alaska where no white men had ever been. Only 4 of them would return to civilization alive, two of whom were totally blinded. ; 8 x 5.50 x 1.10 inches; 231 pages .
