Color pastedown chipped illustration on green cloth (slightly soiled and rubbed) front board. Gold lettering on slightly cocked spine. Shelf wear to tail (foot) and head of book. Bumped corners. Illustrated front and back pastedown endpapers. Previous owner's cursive inscription in blue ink: "[Milisa Cook from [illegible lettering] Cook Christmas 1918" Author's inscription/signature (mass printed [facsimile], in green on blank flyleaf: "For all boys and girls who love to help things grow. Jayne Eayre Fryer") A weak color plate frontispiece opposite of the main title page [future inner hinge issue]. Multiple color cut out (folded) illustrations. Plate #1 [p. 53] is early spring. Plate #2 [p. 55] is summer flowers. Missing plate #3. Plate #4 [p.62] is fall flowers. Plate#1, #2 or #4 can be [permanently] removed from book and placed over the color two page fold out making a spring, fall or summer flower garden. The subsequent chapters discuss the various flowers on the color plates. Each chapter has a uniquely illustrated margin. The book also tells a story about the animals one can find in a flower garden such as bees, birds, worms, butterflies, cut worms and the wicked rose buds. An interesting book that teaches young and old the magic of planning and raising a flower garden through the various seasons. Stain on outer margin of p. 21. 378 pages, followed by two pages of book advertisements. Approx. dimensions9.5"x7"x1.5" USED BOOK. MISSING ONE COLOR PLATE.
