Some minor wear to the spine ends and corners of red cloth-covered boards, but gilt titles on spine and front board are still bright, as are black illustrations of groups of sporting equipment. No publication date given, but ''New edition'' on title page, probably around 1880s or so. Some foxing to page edges and to outer pages, 1 page torn to top corner where an uncut page had been opened, the torn-away corner still being attached to opposite page. Some other small tears to a couple of pages,1 page with piece missing. Couple of tissue guards a little creased and torn. Tears to a couple on pages on outer edge. 291pp plus 1p adverts, 16 full-page colour drawings, all with tissue-guards.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. London: J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd, 1915. Bound in the publishers olive green cloth boards with elaborate black title lettering and decoration blind stamped to the front board. Gilt and black titles to the spine. The 280 pages are in very good condition with no inscriptions and are squarely bound. Light fading to spine as is usual with this title otherwise the cloth binding in very presentable condition. Pages are dyed grey to top edges. There is the misspelling " litttle " to line 11 of page 213 which is the sign of the First Edition. The photograph supplied is a picture of the book and we are happy to send more images on request. Red leather gilt-tooled spine labels; gilt-tooled spine ornamentation. All page edges speckled red. Terra cotta endpapers. Front fixed endpapers bear engraved armorial book plate of George Paget with the Paget family motto "Per il suo Contrario." This was presumably Lord George Augustus Frederick Paget (1818-1880), who served in the Crimean War as a senior officer of the Light Cavalry brigade under Lord Cardigan and was present at the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade; he was later made Inspector General of Cavalry. In Good+ Condition: edges and boards are somewhat rubbed; leather corners are scraped, with most of leather lacking from upper corners of vol. 1; part of leather spine label lacking from vol. 3; pages are clean and tight.
