About This Item
Paris: Gedalge Libraire Editeur. Paperback. Fair. Freehand drawing workbooks, number 3 and 5 in a series attributed to A. Armbruster, an academy inspector in Belfort, France credited with several other primary education texts in the 1924 "Catalogue général des livres imprimés de la Bibliothèque nationale." We found limited information about him, noted in for organizing "l'exposition scolaire du Haut-Rhin" in 1876, garnered honors at the 1878 Universal Exposition, and enjoyed some success in the Ministry of Education under Jules Ferry. A run of the instruction books was published around 1883, with "Exposition Universelle de 1878, Paris, Medaille d'argent" indicated on the covers. We have found a few surviving copies of that later run, but none of this edition in OCLC, BnF, etc.
#3: Méthode de dessin à main levée, adaptée a la nouvelle organisation pédagogique: Etude de l'évaluation et de la proportionnalité des lignes. Combinaisons des cotes du carré et diagonales. Wraps, 14pp. No date, ca. 1876-78. In Fair to Good condition with creasing and dampstaining, but no losses or interruption of contents. Paper is toned and fragile. Chipping to rear wrap at the bottom corner and along the spine, still intact but unsecured. Two holes and the offset ghost of a string tie at the centerfold suggest it may have been stitched at some point.
#5: Tracé des lignes droites et leur division en parties égales Evaluation des rapports des lignes entre elles. Wraps, 14pp. No date, ca. 1876-78. In Fair to Good condition: pages fragile and age toned, narrow tidemark at the lower spine and upper right corner, which also has dog-earring. Pages unsecured, outer 2 leaves split along the bottom half of the spine. Irregular crease/indentation persists at the center of the pages. No writing or drawing in the text.
