K. Ogawa, 1893. Soft cover bound in illustrated stiff board with punch binding and ribbon tie, illustrated with 15 b/w photos taken by Kazumasa Ogawa, one of Japan's foremost early photographers. This book was produced under the direction of Chitora Kawasaki of Ko-yo-kai (Tokyo Fine Art School). Privately published by the photographer Original English-language edition with the plates processed by the National Chemograph Co. Illustrated cover has suffered loss along the top edge what has been repaired with Japanese paper, general moderate soiling and smudge with several small drip spots on top corner, new ribbon tie, additional repair to a chip top rear near spine, tears to margins of the punched holes, small curve along the fore edge of all pages as if someone started to roll the book. Text is clean and unmarked. Images available. USPS confirmation used on all U.S. shipments. Additional postage will be necessary for Priority or International addresses.. First Edition. Softcover. Alexander Neville was a 16th-century scholar known for his studies in antiquities. His portfolio of works isn't as extensive as other English scholars from this era; however, his work 'Furoribus Norfolcensium Ketto Duce' is considered the best work on Kett's Rebellion of 1549.
Kett's Rebellion took place in Norfolk, when Edward VI's forces suppressed Robert Kett and his rebels who were destroying fences of wealthy property owners. Neville frustrated many Welsh readers who took offense to Neville calling Welsh soldiers 'lazy sheep'.
