About This Item

Paris, Obelisk Press, [1948]. Soft Cover. vols 1,3 and 4 of 5.: 233p., 1 leaf;176; 178 p., 19.5 cm. "Must not be imported into England or U.S.A."--Back cover Frank Harris, born in Galway, educated at an American (Kansas) and a German (Gottingen) University, worked in the air chambers during construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, was in Chicago when it burned, was a cowboy, and in London became one of the great magazine editors of his day, introducing Joseph Conrad and H. G. Wells and hiring the young G. B. Shaw as drama critic. His autobiography is filled with literary and historical/political insights. Harris believed one's sexual history as important a manifestation of life as any other and included vivid descriptions of his love life which seems for the most part in his elder years of seducing young girls. It is this aspect of the book to which readers-- not you-- have gravitated and praised or condemned according to one's attitude about sex. That's a shame because this is a wide-ranging book by a strong and independent personality.Stock# 42,645. Good, paper fragile, spine worn, rear cover vol 1 loose.
