About This Item
Holt Rinehart, 1973. Hard cover. Good/Good. 8x5x0. Some edgewear to dustjacket. The author describes his family's six-year association with the mallard duck who had lost one leg in a muskrat trap. Mel Ellis was born Melvin Richard Ellis, in 1912, in Wisconsin. Beginning in 1957, Ellis began to write novels, dealing with nature and the natural environment in Wisconsin. His novel, Flight of the White Wolf (1970), went on to become a Disney TV series and movie. Ellis devoted the remainder of his life to chronicling life and wildlife in and around Little Lakes, his 12.5 acre homestead and nature preserve, near Waukesha. He also wrote a regular Notes from Little Lakes column in The Milwaukee Journal that focused on nature and life in southern Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Ellis became one of Wisconsin's most famous outdoor writers.
