Collins, 1967. Hardcover. Good/Acceptable. 1967. First Edition. 191 pages. White pictorial dust jacket over brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Book has a notable smoky odour. Inscription to front endpaper. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Text block edges heavily tanned. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. Boards are slightly bowed. Faint, notable pale staining to upper and lower edges of both boards. Gilt is bright. Light wear to clipped dust jacket; tears, nicks and creases to spine, edges and corners. Notable loss to upper front panel. Light sunning to jacket edges and spine. Slight water staining to edges.
Synopsis
J. A. Baker is also the author of The Hill of Summer. He was a native of Essex, England. Robert Macfarlane ’s Mountains of the Mind (2003), about wilderness and the Western imagination, won the Somerset Maugham Award and the Guardian First Book Award, among other prizes.
