Philadelphia: Henry Altemus Company, 1900. Hardcover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Very Good, close to Near Fine. The Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan. Philadelphia: Henry Altemus Company, undated but ca.1905 (see inscription note). 16mo, blue boards decorated with cover illustration and gilt lettering and borders on front cover and spine, frontispiece illustration as well as numerous illustrations from engravings throughout, 234 pp. + 24 pp. Altemus titles catalogue ads. Very good, close to near fine, with just very modest wear at spine ends and cover corners (see scans). Page toning is minimal. Christmas inscription for 1905 (see scan) indicates that this example - which is undated - is an edition either from 1905 or recently prior. Bunyan's famous work of allegorical dream-sequence Christian fiction from 1678, in a nicely, decoratively bound form, turn-of-the century era. Superior condition, better than most of the available Altemus examples from this time. Ships in stout protection, of course. L16
Synopsis
The Pilgrim's Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan and published in February, 1678. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of English literature, has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print.
