Original navy boards, gilt lettering spine. Book is in FINE condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, clean covers, clean pages, no crease marks. Original dust jacket is in fine condition with no tears, no chips, no soiling, no fading, complete. Hefty book measures 254mm tall x 187mm, and has 262 pages. Includes 50 attractive color photos by Cleare, 5 maps, 40pp appendix with letters from Whymper, death of Carrol, attempts on the Matterhorn, modern views of the 1865 accident, etc. & all the engravings & ills from the original 1st edition..
