NY: Sears, 1846. Sears' Pictorial Magazine 1846. The third year of a short lived magazine, which ran until 1849. Published NY: Sears, 1846. 8vo., 6 1/2" x 10." Bound in half leather with gilt lettering and designs on spine, and marbleized paper covered boards. The first 9 monthly issues for the year 1846 are present, which run from pp. 9 - 378. Pages 379 - 528 for the subsequent issues are not present. Frontis, title page, preface, table of contents and embellishments are missing (pp.1 -8), as is the plate of The Old Billop House on p.106. (P. 105 was blank, being the verso of plate.) Profusely illustrated with many full page engravings - approximately 85 are present among the nine issues. Articles include The Whale and Whale Catching, The Pampas of Buenos Aryes, Music, The Pallisades of New Jersey, Cicero, Benjamin Franklin, The Island of Capri, Form and Structure of the Earth, etc. Some rubbing to the leather with wear at the tips and extremities. Binding is tight and sound. Pages very clean and bright with only occasional mild foxing. Good.. Hard. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. 8vo.. Magazines & Periodicals.
