Wilmington, NC. unbound. very good. Very fine iron gall ink signature: "A.M. Waddell - Wilmington - North Carolina", on a 5.5" x 1.5" slip of paper with exceptional contrast and clarity. Excellent condition.<br/><br/> North Carolina politician best remembered for leading the only successful coup d'etat on United States soil, becoming Mayor of Wilmington, North Carolina, following the coordinated overthrow of the city's government. An avowed white supremacist, he is also credited with coining the phrase "race riot". During the Civil War, Waddell joined the Confederacy as an adjutant, in 1861, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Third Cavalry, which later became known as teh Forty-First North Carolina Regiment.<br/><br/>
