About This Item

Istanbul: Privately Published, 2023. Soft cover. New. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In english. [10], 208 p., richly illustrated. Fokker EIII Eindecker (Monoplane) was a single seater "Fighter Airplane" equipped with 100 hp Oberursel U1 brand, 9 cylinder rotary engine, its machine-gun (7.92 mm Spandau LMG 08 brand with 500 rounds of ammunition) is mounted on its cowling in front of the cockpit, and attached to a synchronous firing mechanism. This new secret invention of that time, made up easy to open fire between the rotating propeller blades (propeller arc). While pilot steering his plane, he could able to open fire on the enemy airplane at the same time. Fokker E III monoplane was the product of an innovative design ahead of its time. On the first half of January 1916, two Fokker EIII and one Fokker Ell brand planes that came to the war zone in the last days of Dardanelles Campaign, promptly turned the balance of asymetric air warfare totally in favor of the Turkish side. These airplanes has downed all rival Allied airplanes without incurring any casualties. In other words, Allied airplanes became a fodder for the planes of this "Hunting Squadron".
