About This Item
New York: Funk & Wagnall. Good. 1905. Hardcover. First Edition. Blue cloth covered boards with gilt lettering with two pictorial past-ons. Cover design by Charles Graham. 359 pages. Illustrated by Bart Haley. Frontispiece portrait of Wilder with auto pen signature. Scattered foxing within, the cover is worn on all extremities and is missing part of the portrait portion of the cover past-on. An exhaustive list "The People, Stories About Whom Appear" reads like a Who's Who of the entertainment-world-and-friends of the 1900's including Cornelius Vanderbilt, Sir Henry Irving, Thomas De Witt Talmage, Steele MacKaye, Frank Lawton and many more. Marshall Pinckney Wilder (1859 1915) was an American actor, monologist, humorist and sketch artist. Though nearly forgotten today, Wilder was heralded in his lifetime and did not let his dwarfism be an excuse for cheap entertainment. .
