Frontispiece attached to inside of front cover. Principally taken from: Le Magazin des Enfans Mme. de Beaumont (cf. Preface). Plates probably engraved by William Charles. Rosenbach, 438; Early American Imprints, 2nd series (Shaw & Shoemaker), 19992 and 22717. The illustrations are printed on a different stock, which has darkened more than the text. Front cover detached; otherwise in Very Good- Condition: cover slightly soiled; lacking some paper along joints; scattered foxing, including title page; otherwise pages are clean and tight.

Boards lightly smudged, 1/4 inch dark brown smudge on rear at lower edge, lightly bumped and rubbed on heel of spine, rubbed and frayed at head of spine. Pages darkened, faint price erasure mark on ffep, closed tear (1/4 inch) on top inner corner of title page, cracked at page 20 and 85. Center double page - 107 to 110 - loose from staples and lightly chipped along fore edge, block encompassing pages 183-194 loose from top staple, page 183 lightly chipped along fore edge, pages 47 and 49 dog-eared on lower corner.
