Paperback large wide octavo (with flaps), very good condition, black & white text-photos, maps, minor edgewear, minor foxed spots edges & endpapers, bottom corners last three pages little creased, owner's name front flyleaf. 304 pp. During two voyages across the South Seas in the corvettes Astrolabe (1826 - 1829), and Astrolabe and Zelee (1837 - 1840), the French explorer Captain Jules S. C. Dumont d'Urville visited Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, the Straits of Magellan, Chile, New Guinea, South East Asia, Tasmania, Antarctica and Torres Strait. Helen Rosenman was so interested by his story, she has translated from the French and rewritten the tale from d'Urville’s official accounts to create an exciting narrative account of these explorations.
