About This Item
Synopsis
Walking Across Egypt is a 1999 coming-of-age drama film shot in the state of Florida. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by author Clyde Edgerton. It was directed by veteran director Arthur Allan Seidelman. The screenplay was written by Paul Tamasy. Walking Across Egypt represents one of the more significant independent films produced in the Florida film industry in recent times.
Reviews
Edgerton captures the authentic voice of the southern mountains. In Mattie Rigsbee he has encapsulated everything lovely and everything maddening about old-timers in those mountains. Mattie believes literally in the Bible, and feels it is encouraging her to adopt a young man of 16 who is in the Juvenile Holding Area for stealing a car. Mattie is already 78, but feels a new burst of energy with this decision. Her middle-aged son and daughter are horrified, as are the members of her church at her having dealings with a young thief.
