About This Item
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1934. The first single volume edition. Illustrated with 364 colour plates from photographs, 31 black and white illustrations, quarto, pp 362, occasional slight creasing of the pages through turning, otherwise very clean internally, original olive cloth, a tiny bruise to the bottom edge of the upper cover, otherwise in much better than average condition. From the library of the architect John Prizeman, with his signature on the front endpaper. An impressive work, cataloguing much of the more important herbaceous plants with impressive photographic clarity. In the intervening ninety years, many of the plants illustrated have become well-used garden plants. A heavy book - extra postage may be needed.[House was an American botanist from New York State. He worked as a researcher, plant-collector and as a professor at numerous institutions in New York, Washington DC and the Carolinas. His herbarium is estimated to contain 27,000 specimens.]. First Edition thus. Cloth. Very Good.
