About This Item

London: Effingham Wilson & Charles Tilt, 1842. First edition. Hardcover. Important illustrated architectural work credited with helping to launch the Gothic Revival style of architecture in Great Britain. Robert Garland made the sketches for this work while the historical text was produced by Thomas Moule. Henry Winkles is given credit for the works on the title page. Winkles (1801 - 1860) was an English architectural illustrator, printer and engraver, who while very influential in Britain also founded the first steel engraving studio in Karlsruhe, Germany along with Karl Ludwig Frommel.

The volumes are illustrated with ground plans and wonderful engraved views.
