Not paginated, approx. 68 leaves and printed one side only; a facsimile of an original work done in manuscript by Susan Hale done in 1863, auctioned in an effort to raise money for Civil War efforts via the Sanitary Commission, according to Caroline P. Atkinson's introductory comments on the book in the Foreword; illustrated throughout with small stories and tales by the prolific Susan Hale (1833-1910) writer and painter; Caroline P. Atkinson, Hale's friend, edited and published selections of her letters - "...Hale left a legacy of enthusiasm and intellectual accomplishment that had a lasting effect on her family and associates..." (Erica E. Hirshler in the ANB); dustjacket over matching paper covered brown illustrated boards; "First Printing" stated on copyright page; some tips, edgewear, darkening to jacket, corners with some chipping, front panel split from spine; nevertheless, the jacket presentable and has done it's job well in protecting the boards which are in very good condition as are the contents.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good.
