Pages are moderately tanned with fairly heavy foxing to endpapers and text block edges. Former owner's ink inscription to front free endpaper, with retail label and pencil inscription to paste-down. Slight cracking to front hinge and gutters, with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Occasional grey thumb-marking present throughout. Pencil mark on page 1, with grey rubbing and a few small nicks to text block edges. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with mild bumping to corners and slight rubbing to surfaces. Fairly heavy tanning to spine, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a subtle forward lean and bow. faint mottling to front and rear boards. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

The 1854 edition of Jacob Abbott's The History of Madame Roland, part of the Abbott's Histories series. Red cloth, blindstamped on both front and back. Gilt on spine. Famed full-color frontispiece is intact, as is tipped-in protective tissue. All eight B&W engravings are intact, including frontispiece. (Plate on page 97 has a deckled bottom edge.)Spine is discolored and darker than rest of jacket, with slight wear on heel and top. Pages are age tanned and have small stains. Two of the pages are uncut.All four endpapers are significantly discolored with a black waxy substance (see photos), something like crayon.

Their timeslip experience has become known as the Ghosts of the Petit Trianon. Previously out of print, this is a new edition with additional timeslip type experiences at Versailles.
