The full report of the party's Commission on Inner Party Democracy which also contains the important Minority Report presented by some members of the Commission. Party members seeking greater internal democracy, as a necessary step to begin to divest the party of its Stalinist past, coalesced around the Minority Report for which Christopher Hill (the English Marxist historian and later Master of Baliol College, Oxford University) acted as spokesperson. The 25th CPGB Congress rejected the arguments of the Minority Report, leading to the party losing considerable numbers of members for whom the outcome was unacceptable. In the early 1980s a long-simmering dispute between the party leadership supported by the majority its members, and an anti-Eurocommunist faction, flared up when the London District Congress in 1984 was closed down for insisting on giving full rights to individuals whose membership of the CPGB had been suspended by the Executive Committee. After the CPGB General Secretary closed the London District Congress a number of members remained in the room and held what was, in effect, the founding meeting of a breakaway party, although the formal split did not come until four years later. In 1988 these elements formally split from the CPGB to organise a new party known as the Communist Party of Britain. Part of the collateral damage of this dispute resulted in the leadership of the CPGB losing the editorial control of its daily newspaper – the Morning Star. The, mostly blank, final page has 29 lines of neatly written text in ink in small script. The text begins "We the clothing workers of Leeds…." [i.e. Leeds in England], and continues with an analysis of the position of clothing workers and sets out a series of demands/aspirations including the claim for "equal pay for equal work" – highly relevant due to the increased number of women employed in the industry on work previously done by men now in the armed forces. The hand-written text could have been the basis for part of a speech given by a labour leader or for the text of a trade union meeting resolution.

Ruth and Edmund (Eddie) Frow, in addition to their full-time occupations, were highly respected historians and founders of the Working Class Movement library at their home in Trafford, Manchester. Life-long members of the CPGB they collected a large and wide array of books and material concerning labour and working-class history and anti-capitalist social movements. This detailed publication covers the period from the formation of the CPGB in Manchester and Salford up to the 1926 General Strike. It is based upon material, including interviews and discussions with early CPGB members, collected by the Frow's over many years. It includes over 120 short biographies of Communist Party and other left-wing activists from the period.
