Second format, a volume issued circa 1927 for the Dodd Young People's Library. (The Cumulative Book Index lists this Dodd series as issued in 1927). Description:
New York: D. Appleton and Co., 1919. Third Printing (stated) . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Wrenn, Charles L.. Bound in tan boards backed with brown cloth; the front cover carries an applique. Originally published in 1918. Third printing, with a 1919 title page date and the (3) on the last page of the text. This is the first state binding, as Appleton made some concessions to wartime paper restrictions (voluntary). Later printings would occur in full cloth. With four illustrations in color by Charles L. Wrenn (all present). The choice of the gray-green lettering was a poor one, as the lettering did not stand out against the dark brown cloth of the spine. It is faint but legible on this copy. The boards show moderate edgewear with small frays at the corners; the cloth at the head and heel of the spine is slightly rubbed. The applique is unchipped but lightly rubbed. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight, unmarked copy. One of the author's… Read More

New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1916. Reprint. . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Caswell, Edward C.. Bound in blindstamped brown cloth with titles stamped in white. Book three in the "Football Eleven" series. With four illustrations on coated paper by E. C. Caswell, all present. Mattson & Davis format one, with the book just shy of eight inches tall. First editions in this series must have corresponding dates to the title and copyright pages, and this copy lacks the title page date, hence an early reprint. The cloth shows only very light edgewear and the white lettering is nearly intact on the front cover and about 75% intact on the spine, much better than the average copy. Hinges solid; binding square. Clean, tight and unmarked. See photos. Mattson & Davis 26300. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
