Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1929. This First Edition is in Very Good condition (click on photo). It provides a fascinating tour of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, with anecdotes about food, traditional clothing, authors, Vikings, historical sites, history, and geography. The book is bound in red cloth with light spine tip fraying. Illustrated endpapers provide maps of all three countries. The book also features a color frontis with black-and-white illustrations throughout. The binding is secure, and the pages are mainly bright and clean, but I did notice that a former owner had placed a bracket around one paragraph on Page 131 and two words were underlined on Page 123. There are occasional margin stains, and the original owner had the bad habit of dog-earing page corners as bookmarks. The book measures 5 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches and includes 332 pages. . First Edition. Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1936. Although often remembered as one of the blacklisted Hollywood Ten, John Howard Lawson (1894-1977) was also a co-creator of the Screen Actor's Guild and a prolific play and screenwriter. This rare book on the theory and technique of playwriting has become a classic for those writers interested in how to structure and create convincing, well-rounded, balanced characters, within a theatrical framework. Originally published in 1936, this is a Third Impression. The book is in clean, Very Good+ condition. It is bound in a black, woven cloth with yellow lettering on the front panel and spine, and has top-edge red stain. The binding is tight and secure. The pages are clean and bright, with no marks, stains or tears. There is a signature of the former owner, Robert B. Parker, Jr., on the free front endpaper. (Although I purchased this book in Boston in 1965, I don't think this is the same Parker who writes mysteries.) The book measures 5 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches and… Read More

Description:
New York: Harper & Row, 1968. Jim Lee teaches the fundamentals of Cantonese cuisine, so that even beginners can prepare either a simple Chinese meal or an elaborate banquet. This Stated First Edition (and unless it's stated, it's not) has a CBC (Cook Book Club) dust jacket. I have a later printing in my own collection, and this First Edition was more expensively produced. It features a red cloth binding (later printings used plastic) with a gilt dragon vignette illustration on the front panel and die-stamped gilt spine titles. It also has illustrated endpapers of Chinese characters, while later printings do not. The book is in close to Fine condition, but has bumped upper corners and light shelf wear. The binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean and bright throughout. The author's wife, Isabella Lee, illustrated the book. Description:
London: Heinemann, 1958. This First Edition is in Near-Fine condition, with a Near-Fine unclipped dust jacket. (See photo). It is probably the definitive work on two of England's most norious serial killers, John George Haigh and John Reginald Halliday Christie. Haigh liked to give his victims a bath in sulphuric acid to make them vanish, while Christie preferred planting them in the garden of his house at 10 Rillington Place. The author, incidentally, was the private secretary to Dr. Keith Simpson, the Home Office pathologist. Thus she had first-hand access to evidence as these cases developed. The book has black cloth covers with silver spine lettering. The bindings are tight and secure, and the text pages are clean bright. There is a small stamp on the front free endpaper of the orignal owner. The unclipped dust jacket (the book sold originally for 21 shillings) has only light shelf wear.
