A lovely copy with only a couple of small marks light marks and a little rubbing to the spine tips, corners and edges. Internally clean and bright with a number of pages unopened, neat ownership name to the half title and a little toning to the verso of the free endpapers. There is a faint pencil note about the book to the verso of the front free endpaper and one or two very faint handling marks within the text. Sewn binding iv, 31pp(1), (6) publisher's adverts with 16 hand coloured images including frontispiece and title page vignette, as called for. Very good plus book with light toning/marking mainly to the edges, a little rounding to the corners, with slight surface loss at the bottom fore edge corner of the front cover, and rubbing to the foot of the spine. Internally there is a Christmas gift inscription dated 1891 on the inside of the front cover but otherwise the book is clean and bright. All in all a very nice copy of this Leadenhall Press Series of Forgotten Picture Books for Children. The boards are clean and bright with firm sharp corners and just a hint of pushing to the foot of the spine. A little rubbing to the corners and spine tips. The spine has uniform fading and there are three small marks on the boards of 1-2 mm. Internally clean, without name, inscription or bookplate and just a hint of toning to the endpapers. The dust jacket is dust marked and has some toning on the rear together with fading to the spine. It is rubbed with a little loss to the spine tips, joints and corners. There are a number of closed tears along the top and bottom edges with marks from previous tape reinforcement present on the verso, although the tape is no longer present. There is rubbing to the edges with associated creasing but the jacket presents reasonably well in its new removable clear cover. Publisher's original dust jacket showing price of 3/6 to spine. The boards and spine are in near fine condition. There is very light rubbing to the extreme tips of the spine ends and a 3mm nick in the cloth on the bottom edge of the front board. The fore edge corners are all sharp, firm and square and the jacket has kept the cloth beautifully clean and fresh. The binding is very tight and square. Internally, there is acid migration toning and spotting to both free endpapers and two family inscriptions on the ffep., but thereafter, the pages are very clean throughout. This is an unnumbered, signed, presentation copy. Some toning to the spine and and the edges of the rear board. There is a little shelf wear and a hint of pushing to the bottom corners. Internally there is uniform toning to both free endpapers but otherwise the book is very clean with only very light dust making to the uncut edges.
