Publisher's quarter tan linen over patterned boards, printed paper spine label, plaind dust jacket. An excellent copy. Carrie Le Conte was the daughter of Jospeh Le Conte and accompanied him and his students on their famous trip to the Yosemite in 1878. Carrie kept her own journal and it is from this that this book was formed (the journals themselves are at the Bancroft Library). As opposed to her father's famous memoir of this trip ('Ramblings in the High Sierra'), Carrie Le Conte's memoirs are those of Yosemite as seen through the eyes of a teenage girl. Included are three copies of the prospectus and a postcard invitation to see the exhibition of the Yosemite material of Francis Farquhar being put on by the Book Club to commemorate the book's publication Laid in is an original portrait studio photograph of… Read More

Description:
Yosemite: Yosemite Falls Studio, 1922. First edition. Folio. [8] pp. Stapled into original brown printed wrappers. Old glue stain to lower front wrapper else a very good copy. Daniel Foley managed the Yosemite Valley tourist office, which published a guide, a view book, and a newspaper for visitors. This is a copy of the newspaper for the date of June 27, 1922 (Vol. 7, No. 35). As with all issues, this throw-away contains and extensive list of the Park visitors of that date, information about Yosemite and ads for local businesses. For example, we learn that Cecil Leet of Detroit has begun his 9-month hike in the mountains of California; Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Lawson of Venice (CA) drove to Yosemite on their way to the Pacific Northwest, etc.

Description:
San Francisco: Taber Photo, [ca. 1880]. Original cabinet card albumen photograph depicting Yosemite Falls in the background and with a cattle fence in the foreground. On a Taber mount with his negative number (B568) and title in the lower part of the image. The verso of the mount has his advertisement and an illustration of his studio. A very good image. Judging from the fence in the photograph the picture was probably taken in the mid-1870's. There are records of fence construction in the upper Valley in 1869 and 1876. By 1880 the park commissioners were complaining about the dilapidated look of the fences in the Valley and clearly the fence in this photo is in fine shape.
