Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay identified in the 1500s, built two forts in the gold rush of 1849, became a prison in 1903, closed in 1963, occupied by the Sioux, then became the National Historic Monument in 1986 known for its plants & birds. Tape labels spine, read cover pocket, label back endpaper; good with rear movable band of information w/tear across bottom edge; contents fine, no dust jacket.
