About This Item

Edinburgh: Printed by the Heirs and Successors of Andrew Anderson, 1705, 1706.. Three works bound in one, all first editions. (xvi), 450, 1, (21); 36; 44 pp. Contemporary calf, spine with raised bands, recent gilt lettered label to style. Neat repairs to the head and joints, very good. The second work is the author's rejoinder against a pamphlet composed by James Gordon, the parson of Banchory-Devenick, with Forbes obviously taking great exception to his "charitable observations". In response someone called R. Jameson - "A Gentleman of the Country" - wrote "Some Just Reflexions on a Nonsensical and Scurril Pasquill Against the Parson of Banchory, Penned by a Brain-sick Bigott, named William Forbes, Advocat", which again the author could not let pass without considerable comment.
