Letterpress was used to print the text using metal type on a flat bed press on a Vandercook Universal III using Hahnemuhle Biblio and Copperplate papers at the Letterpress & Foundry of Michael and Winifred Bixler. Then digitally reproduced small Giclée prints of the artist's original 20 x 24" Polaroid image transfers were printed archivally on Crane's Museo paper using an Epson 4000 printer. A modern day Cabinet of Wonders. Broadfoot uses A. S. Byatt's "Things Are Not What They Seem" to accompany her images as "a numinous guide to viewing" these wonders of nature. Volume appears to have been rebound in the early 20th century, incorporating reprints of a few of the missing plates. Cloth over spine and corners is rubbed and a little worn. Marbled paper over boards is a little rubbed. Scattered, mostly light foxing. Volume remains tight and in generally good condition, though head of spine has been bumped, and there is a light crease at upper inside corner of all leaves. 22 of 26 plates are present, though five are good quality facsimile color reprints apparently included at the time of rebinding. Complete with all plates and pages. Bindings are mixed. Seven volumes light tan full leather (goat?) with Yapp style bindings. Marbled endpapers and edges. Two half leather, marbled board bindings and one museum library rebind (~75 years old). The interiors are excellent except for vol. 6 Mandibulata which has water toning upper outer corner affecting last quarter of volume and final two plates. Haustellata volume 4 has museum library stamp on title page and plates are in a back pocket; has interesting old scientific marginalia.
