Berlin: C.F. Henning, 1751. 1st Edition . Very Good. 3.75 x 6 inches (9.5 x 15 cm). Complete in two volumes. Full calf leather bindings, red leather title labels and gilt decoration to spines. Good solid bindings. Volume one has light rippling to the pages and foxing up to page 3, hole to front free endpaper and three small holes to leading blank, Volume II is very clean throughout. Engraved bookplate to front endpapers (Charles Grave Hudson - 1st Baronet Hudson, of Wanlip Hall, Leicestershire.) The first edition of one of Voltaire's most important works, a landmark in the development of historiography, published under the alternative pseudonym M. de Francheville. A very nice example. Cambridge: Macmillan and Co., 1856. 1st Edition . Fine. 5.25 x 7.5 inches (13 x 19 cm). Full brown morocco binding by Bayntun-Riviere of Bath (binder's name in gilt to rear turn-in). Spine has five raised bands, gilt ruled panels, gilt lettering, date to foot of spine. Single gilt fillet border to boards. Gilt fillet to board edges and turn-ins, marbled endpapers, all page edges gilt. Original cloth front cover bound in to the rear of the book. Fine condition throughout. Paris: Thierry, Barbin et Trabouillet, 1697. Very Good. 4 x 6.5 inches (10 x 16.5 cm). Complete eight volume set. Full speckled calf leather bindings. Spines have five raised bands, red morocco title labels, compartments ornately decorated in gilt. Some marking and slight worming to boards. Spines rubbed with slight wear to head and foot. A couple of volumes have slight cracking to joints but all boards are firmly attached. Gilt decorated board edges and turn-ins. All page edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Very tight bindings in excellent overall condition. Clean pages throughout. French language. All 30 plates are present and in first class condition (one plate in Vol. V has been bound in upside down.) A rare and important early edition of Molière's works, reproducing the 1682 first collected edition. An excellent example, complete with all plates and in attractive contemporary bindings. London: John Wilkie, 1775. 2nd Edition . Very Good Plus. 5 x 8.25 inches (13 x 21 cm). Recent quarter black morocco leather binding with marbled boards. Spine has five raised bands and gilt title. Light staining to lower corner of first few pages, half title page has three small holes to the inner margin and an ink spot, small mark and hole to outside margin of title page, a couple of light marks elsewhere but text is generally in very clean condition throughout. A couple of text pages have slight loss to the margins, page 39/40 has a tear to the centre of the page with very slight loss (no loss to text), there are also a few corrections to the text in old ink (these are not noted in the errata.) Leaves C3 and C4 (pages 13-16) are very tightly cropped to the outer margin, on p13 the text runs right to the edge of the page but is complete. Heavy and uneven fading to boards. Slight loss to head of spine of Volume I. Board corners slightly worn. Slight cracking to joints and a few worm holes to spines (no worming to pages).
