Oxford: Printed at the Clarendon Press by W. Jackson and A. Hamilton, 1781. Leather Bound. Very Good +. G.L. Smith. 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. 12mo. Collates as A-L (in 12s). Printed in two column Roman type. Complete. 49 engravings bound in (plate facing leaf E1 lacking). Frontispiece states: "Printed for William Dawson, Paternoster Row, London. The whole set engraved by G. L. Smith.... Published according to Act of Parliament January the 1st 1773." Engravings illustrate selected days from the church year, Holy Communion, Psalms of David, Gun-powder treason, Martyrdom of King Charles I and King Charles's Restoration. Headings, captions, scriptural citations and quotations are engraved. They were originally issued in 1773 as The Liturgy of the Church of England: Adorn'd with 52 Historical Cuts. Early owner's names, Ann Reynolds and Ann Cutbush, along with note bearing same name. Marbled end papers. A few pages torn at edges. Griffiths 1781/7. Bound with: Brady, N[icholas] and N[ahum] Tate, A New Version of the Psalms of David, with Hymns. London: T. Harrison for the Company of Stationers, 1782. 216 numbered pages + [4] unnumbered pages. A-I (in 12s) + [blank] (2 leaves). Complete. Printed in single column Roman type. ESTCT91891. Followed by 4 pages of hymns and one page with a different contemporary hymn pasted on. Hymns closely cropped. Bound in contemporary full red leather with central design stamped in gilt and gilt rolled borders on covers. Edges rubbed and gilt faded. A very good engraved illustrated Georgian BCP.
