Original Printed Wrappers. 38, (18) ads pages; Contents clean and secure in original dark blue wrappers with gilt lettering, faded along top and left edges; corners very slightly rounded. OCLC 964642187 Illustrated with photographs of the Hotel (vestibule, lounge, coffee room, etc.), scenes from the area (Abbey Gate, Roman Ruins, Eccleston Ferry, St. John's Priory, River Dee), map of the town, and advertisements (Evans & Co. Liquors and Wines, D. Sherrat & Co. Antiques, Schweppes Soda Water, etc.). Includes a section of "Tariff of Charges" -- Meals and Apartments: Breakfast - 4 shillings, Lunch 4s 6d, Dinner - 7 s. Apt; Single bedrooms - 7 s. 6 d.; Sitting room and bedroom - 1 pound 10 s. Servants charges vary with room selection. The Grosvenor Hotel is located in Eastgate Street in Chester, Cheshire, England. The Grade II listed building was built between 1863 and 1865 and is currently owned by the Duke of Westminster. It was designed by the Chester architect Thomas Mainwaring Penson and was Penson's last major work. It was completed after his death by his elder brother's firm R. K. Penson & A. Ritchie. The hotel passed into the estate of the Duke of Westminster when Richard's son, Hugh Grosvenor, was advanced to 1st Duke of Westminster in 1874. A historical note: during a visit of His late Majesty King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, the entire Hotel was engaged by His Grace and his guests. Notable guests include Princess Diana and several Princes of Wales. Queen Elizabeth II visited the hotel when it hosted wedding festivities for a daughter of the Grosvenor family. .
