The book includes 5 silkscreen prints from Lois Mailou Jones, one of America's most celebrated Black artist. Four of Senghor poems appears in this edition. Leopold Senghar became the first Black member ever induced into the French Academy. In 1960 he was elected the first president of Senegal and re-elected four times. As a poet, he represented the literary and artistic expression of the Black African experience. This volume is #171 of 300 and signed by both Senghar and Jones. Twelve Fables of Aesop narrated by Glenway Wescott, illustrated with 18 linoleum blocks by Antonio Frasconi, designed and printed in three colors (black, gray, and red) on Rives mould-made paper by Joseph Blumenthal at the Spiral Press, New York, from hand-set Emerson type and from the artist's original blocks. The edition is limited to 975 numbered copies and 25 lettered review copies, all signed by Mr. Frasconi, Mr. Wescott, and Mr. Blumenthal. This copy is one of the 25 lettered copies (copy number "F"). In addition to the other three signatures, it is signed by Monroe Wheeler. In 1935 Wheeler was employed by New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). He was on the Library Committee and in three years he was Director of Membership and the following year Director of Publications.
