Clunn was a retired major and amateur archaeologist who discovered the site of the battle of Teutoburg Forest. This book tells the story of his search for the site, the location of where three Roman legions were wiped out by German tribesmen in AD 9. He first found coins and then other items, all finally leading him him to discover what had happened to the 'lost legions'.

Explorer and underwater archaeologist Wignall turns his attention in this book to a series of excavations of ships ranging from a 2nd century Roman ship off Sicily to a nineteenth century steamer off the North wales coast. Most of the ships described are are among the most important and historic ships of the Elizabethan era, including flagships from the Spanish Armada Santa Maria de la Rosa and the Gran Griffin. All the excavations are underpinned by extensive preparatory research, and the accounts themselves convey the excitement and frustration of such a venture.

The many aspects covered include British superstitions and customs, sacred sites, festivals and sports & pastimes. An excellent survey, with a huge range of illustrations.

Professor Vernaleken's collection of folk stories from Austria and Bohemia. This is the Swan Sonnenschein first edition of 1889, in original binding unlike many sale copies. Book is very good. Pages are largely clean and bright, a few pages with some browning patches on. Some scattered spotting. Many pages have no marks at all. Text block is the original gilt. A previous owner has inscribed on FEP. Original boards are tight, cover picture is clear and clean. Some rubbing to spine. A fascinating, lively and yet scholarly examination of all the items associated with a child's nursery. Touted as the first study of its sort. Illustrations of 125 objects add to the experience. And the authors ask some great questions, including: when was the first pram made; did you know the feeding bottle has a 4,000 year old history; why were rattles made by the finest silver craftsmen of their day? An excellent read.

First UK edition of Adamski's 1955 book originally published in the UK. It purports to document the alien contacts he has continued to have since his original book, 'Flying Saucers Have Landed'. Pages are very bright and clean. FEP has an earlier owner's pen written signature, and both front and rear endpapers have a brown strip: see photographs, all of which are of this actual copy for sale. Cloth boards are very good and firm. DJ is unclipped and very nice, just some nicks and a few minor white worn patches. A couple of small missing areas, especially at and near top of spine. But altogether really nice. 236 pages with illustrations and black and white photos. Now protected in a professional removable clear cover.
