Description:
New York: Hurst & Company, 1910. This is am early 20th Century reprint of a book originally published in 1875. It is in Very Good condition (click on photo). The book is bound in a light green cloth with a pastedown illustration on the front panel. The covers are lightly soiled, the spine tips are frayed, and the corners are rubbed, and several, bumped. There is also a very slight forward slant to the covers. As for the interior, the book has a penciled signature of a former owner on the front endpaper. The binding is secure, and the pages are mainly clean throughout, but with occasional margin stains. The paper stock was superior to that used in most Alger reprints I've seen, so the pages are NOT heavily browned. The book measures 5 by 7 1/2 inches and includes 272 pages. . Hard Cover. Description:
Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1975. This First Printing, with the requisite "number line" ending with a "1", is in close to Fine condition, with a Very Good unclipped dust jacket (click on photo). The book is bound in a brick cloth with metallic blue lettering on front panel and spine. The binding is tight and the pages are clean and sparkling throughout. The book does have a former owner's name on the front pink endpaper. (Perhaps, the pink endpapers were a homage to the subject, since Jayne Mansfield's favorite color was pink.) This fascinating biography not only traces the life of a woman desperate to be a movie star sex goddess, but explores as well the attitudes toward women and sex in the 1950s and 1960s. Jayne Mansfield was extremely intelligent, but promoted herself as the ultimate dumb blonde. The book helps answer why. the dest jacket has chipping in the spine area, several small tears, and light soiling. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective… Read More

I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. Description:
London: Hamlyn, 1970. This clean, attractive book is in Very Good+ condition, with a Very Good+ dust jacket. What makes this particular cookbook stand out from other Jewish cookbooks is the international flavor. Most Jewish cookbooks hightlight Eastern European cookery, whereas this one features recipes from many countries, including the U.S. and Israel as well, wherever Jewish communities have settled. Also, some of the author's optional suggestions for more traditional recipes are inspired. The book is bound in illustrated boards and a blue-cloth spine with white lettering. The boards show some light edge rubbing. As for the interior, the pages are clean and bright throughout, and the full-color illustrations are mouth-watering. The dust jacket has a closed tear and a chip missing from the top of the rear panel. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. New York: Harper & Row, 1968. Jim Lee teaches the fundamentals of Cantonese cuisine, so that even beginners can prepare either a simple Chinese meal or an elaborate banquet. This Stated First Edition (and unless it's stated, it's not) has a CBC (Cook Book Club) dust jacket. I have a later printing in my own collection, and this First Edition was more expensively produced. It features a red cloth binding (later printings used plastic) with a gilt dragon vignette illustration on the front panel and die-stamped gilt spine titles. It also has illustrated endpapers of Chinese characters, while later printings do not. The book is in close to Fine condition, but has bumped upper corners and light shelf wear. The binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean and bright throughout. The author's wife, Isabella Lee, illustrated the book.
