Printed for R Butters, Fleet Street, London, no date; small 6mo, 48pp; disbound from a larger work, perhaps a collection of plays such as in a volume of "The Theatrical Magazine" an advertisement for which appears on the final page, and in consequence without covers; slight damage (without text loss) to the title page and a tiny worm track affecting the very foot of the last six leaves; outer pages somewhat dust marked and with some further dust marking and evidence of handling internally. Based on and adapted from Voltaire's five act tragedy "Mahomet" - which was first staged in April 1741 - Miller's version opened almost exactly three years later and a few days before his death aged around 40. The fifth act of his version was completed by his friend John Hoadley. Collection of ten odd volumes of this very important quarterly periodical from volume 1, number 3 (Autumn 1963) to volume 11, number 2 (Summer 1973), specifically I/3, II/3, III/3, VI/1, VI/3, VIII/2, VIII/3, X/3, X/4 and XI/2; paper wrappers, very good condition other than on account of some slight rubbing or fraying of spine ends. Each journal, about 206x267mm in size, consists of upwards of 100pp of scholarly illustrated essays, 30 or more full page plates and advertisements from dealers in drawings and prints. Please note that as the total weight is some 4kg there will be a postage supplement necessary on account of the excess weight of the packet or packets, depending on destination.

Bernard Houthakker, Amsterdam, 1972; collection of 63 monchrome plates on heavy art paper together with a 16pp catalogue with thin card covers, all loosely contained in a folder, 240 x 210mm; the drawings range from some by 16th century artists through to a sketch of Picasso by Leon Bakst; catalogue staples rusted, edges of the folders a little browned and there being a small crayon smudge on the front but otherwise in good to very good condition, and complete. The catalogue relates directly to two print fairs at which Colnaghi was exhibiting. The first, unidentified, ran from18 November to 5 December 1987 and the second, the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House, London W1, followed directly on from 5 to 8 December 1987. A flyer for the latter fair, listing the exhibitors on the verso, is loosely inserted.

Red buckram, covers gilt, spines and cover edges slightly lightened but otherwise a very good copy. This copiously illustrated work consists of one volume of general explanatory and descriptive text and a second volume of 306 plates with each plate having between one and four images. The content and plates are divided into sections: Architecture, Sculpture, Pottery, Weaving, Metal-Work, Jade and other semiprecious stones, Murals and Manuscripts, Miscellaneous applied arts, and Facets of daily life. Trübner, London, 1869, vol 1 only of a two-volume work; 8vo, pp xx, 369, coloured map of the North Western Provinces; dark brick red cloth, spine gilt, end papers a little marked and with some pages marked with the stamp of the Behrend Memorial Library but a very good copy with the pages mostly still uncut. Henry Miers Elliot, British civil servant and historian was employed in Bengal by the East India Company, producing several important papers and a couple of books in the process, these being edited for general publication after his death in his mid-forties in 1853. This particular volume goes into detail on the castes, tribes, customs, rites and superstitions, much of the book being concerned particularly with the NW provinces.

The work is an ambulatory guide to some 375 distinctive Paris houses and follows the modestly self-described Autolycus's earlier and successful similar work on London houses. Planned to be published in French the translation was apparently delayed and the book instead appeared in English for the interest and edification of relevant tourists.
