The Hearst estate stands at the centre of the route, with roads and highlights of the state shown as far as Victory Highway and Death Valley. .

Louisville and Environs.

By KENTUCKY - LOUISVILLE)

New York.: General Drafting Company.. No date. Ca. 1930s?. Folded color pictorial maps on sheet size 14 x 17 inches. The largest is a map of "Louisville and Vicinity," with major sites (hotels, country clubs, Churchill Downs, railway stations) shown pictorially. An inset map is featured top left, approximately 8 x 6 inches, titled "Map of 'Greenwood' home of William E. Smith at Prospect, Kentucky." Smith was the Head of Standard Oil of Kentucky for many years and a close friend of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. He bred thoroughbred race horses at his estate in Prospect, a close-in suburb of Louisville, and the map was evidently created to celebrate Smith’s penchant for thoroughbreds while also celebrating the vitality of Louisville and its close association with horse racing. A woman astride a horse is pictured to the right of the Smith mansion, possibly Smith’s wife Eunice, and images of horses clearly dominate the map. In keeping with Smith's professional career, small text blocks on the map identify the location of Standard Oil Gas Stations. An engaging and uncommon item; no WorldCat listing. .
