Moderate rubbing and wear to the jacket and the clear covering. Jacket is not price-clipped. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Map endpapers. The endpapers have some toning over the area not covered by the (removable) clear plastic. Text is sound and a little toned. 1958 owner's ink inscriptions on the front flyleaves. Early bookseller's purple ink stamp is on the title page. Laid in loosely is the original publisher's bookmark with a listing of all the major characters. (The publisher's name is not given on the bookmark, but the book's title is listed). Scarce with this bit of original ephemera. Part of the "Library of Contemporary Soviet Novels" series.

The bindings are quite worn, and there is a 2 1/2 inch tear on the rear hinge of Volume I at the headcap. Some other lesser splitting or fraying to the extremities of the bindings as well. Front inner hinge is fully cracked (but still holding) with the muslin beneath exposed. Prior owner's name is written in red marker at the bottom edge of the text block on each volume. The text blocks themselves are generally sound and a little toned but unmarked.
